The degree programs of the Centre will include the Master and Doctoral programs. The curriculum of Master’s program will be customized and designed in the modules by referring to the UN-recommended curriculum in combination withChina's technical strength and advantages as well as the disciplinary features ofBeihangUniversity. International postgraduates will be awarded with the Graduation Certificate of Beihang University and Degree Certificate of the People’s Republic ofChinawhen fulfilling the credits requirements and passing the thesis/dissertation defense.
The program is focusing on training the participants, mainly from the Asia-Pacific region, to have the solid theoretical knowledge and systematic expertise in the space technology applications. Participants are expected to have the ability of conducting the scientific research, exploring the applications or pursuing the professional careers in the related fields independently.
Participants are expected to have a good grasp and understanding of new technology and development in space science technology and applications. Participants are expected to finish the thesis which is having the certain practicability and application prospect.
On the basis of the regulations for core disciplines in the Space Science and Technology Education Center－Curriculum (A/AC. 105.649) issued by UN in 1996, the main directions are as follows:
(1). Remote Sensing and Geo-information System (RS & GIS)
(2). Satellite Communications (SATCOM)
(3). Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)
(4). Basic Space Science and Technology (Micro-Satellite Technology)
Referring to the regulations in the Space Science and Technology Education Center－Curriculum (A/AC. 105.649) issued by UN in 1996, the whole study period is divided into two Ps:
(a) First Phase: course study for 9 months;
(b) Second Phase: thesis research for 12 months (either in China or home country)
The maximum of study period is three years in accordance with the Regulations on Training and Management of International Postgraduates Formulated by Graduate School of Beihang University.
Procedures and Requirements
There are four stages: Formulation of an Individual Training Plan and Course Study (First Phase), Thesis Research and Thesis Defense (Second Phase).
To ensure the quality of study, each participant will be assigned one tutor fromBeihangUniversity. In case of need, tutors from other institutes can be assigned either. Tutors are responsible for helping and supervising the participants on making the dissertation plan, finishing the dissertation proposal, conducting the scientific research and writing dissertation, etc.
1. Formulation of an Individual Training Plan
The training plan consists of two parts: the Course Study Training Plan and the Research Project Training Plan. Under the guidance of tutors, participants are required to submit this two plans within 3 month after registration in the First Phase. Participants are encouraged to select the interdisciplinary research projects and/or projects which are having the potential benefits to home countries.
2. Course Study
The minimum requirement for course credits in First Phase is 27.
By referring to the regulations in the Space Science and Technology Education Center－Curriculum (A/AC. 105.649) issued by UN in 1996, the modularized curriculum is taken and its architecture is as follows:
Module 1: Common Platform Courses, credits≥9
Courses in Module 1 are compulsory in all directions.
Module 2: Major Courses, credits≥10
Module 2 includes the fundamental major courses, core major courses and optional major courses. Each direction has an individual architecture. Module 2 is focusing on training the participants to have the fundamental knowledge, strengthen the skills in the experiment operation and broaden the understanding of the development and leading-edge application in space science and technology.
Module 3:Pilot Project Course, credit≥8
Pilot Project Course in Module 3 is compulsory in all directions and focusing on training the participants to put the knowledge and skills into practice. The topics of pilot project are suggested by tutors, other institutes and participants. This course is encouraged to be carried out in Team to provide the participants a chance to complete a task with teammates for developing the teamwork spirits.
Nine-month course completion certificate will be awarded to the participants who have finished all the course study in First Phase.
3. Thesis Research
（1） Literature Survey and Thesis Proposal（1 Credit）
（2） Midterm Assessment（1 Credit）
（3） Academic Activities（1 Credit）
（4） Achievement and Publication
4. Thesis Defense
The requirements for thesis defense and degree conferral for the participants are the same as those for Chinese postgraduates in accordance with The Temporary Implementation Regulations on Academic Degree Conferrals of Beihang University. The examination and approval materials and resolution should be in Chinese written and archived. The abstract of each thesis should be written in both Chinese and English. Either Chinese or English can be used in the thesis defense.
Master’s Degree in Engineering will be awarded to the participants who have finished the thesis defense.
Termination of Study
Participants will be terminated from the training program if any of the following cases occurs:
(1) The participant fails to complete the thesis proposal or fails to pass the second thesis proposal;
(2) The participant fails in the midterm assessment;
(3) The participant applies for the termination of study approved by the tutor of Beihang University;
(4) The participant fails to meet other requirements of Beihang University.
